Druk Path Trek

The Druk Path Trek is a popular trek that winds through Bhutan’s pristine landscapes and cultural sites. Starting from Paro and ending in Thimphu (or vice versa), the route covers approximately 50 kilometers, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas, dense forests, and remote villages. Trekkers can explore ancient monasteries, encounter rare wildlife, and experience Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage. With moderate difficulty, the trek is suitable for all levels of experience, best enjoyed during the spring and autumn seasons for optimal weather conditions.

Itinerary

Day 1: Paro – Jela Dzong

  • Begin the trek from Paro.
  • Hike to Jela Dzong, a historical fortress.
  • Enjoy scenic views of Paro Valley along the way.
  • Camp overnight near Jela Dzong.

Day 2: Jela Dzong – Jangchulakha

  • Continue the trek towards Jangchulakha.
  • Pass through lush forests of rhododendron and fir trees.
  • Ascend to the Jangchulakha pass, offering panoramic views of the Himalayas.
  • Camp overnight at Jangchulakha.

Day 3: Jangchulakha – Jimilangtso

  • Trek to Jimilangtso, a serene mountain lake.
  • Traverse through alpine meadows and yak herder camps.
  • Enjoy stunning views of snow-capped peaks.
  • Camp overnight near Jimilangtso Lake.

Day 4: Jimilangtso – Simkota

  • Hike to Simkota, passing by several smaller lakes.
  • Encounter unique flora and fauna along the trail.
  • Cross the highest point of the trek, the Labana Pass.
  • Camp overnight at Simkota.

Day 5: Simkota – Phajoding – Thimphu

  • Trek downhill to Phajoding Monastery.
  • Explore the monastery and enjoy breathtaking views of Thimphu Valley.
  • Descend further to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.
  • Check into your hotel and rest for the evening.

Day 6: Thimphu Sightseeing

  • Explore Thimphu’s cultural attractions, including the Tashichho Dzong and the National Memorial Chorten.
  • Visit the Folk Heritage Museum and the Traditional Medicine Institute.
  • Enjoy shopping for local crafts and souvenirs in Thimphu’s markets.
  • Overnight stay in Thimphu.

Day 7: Thimphu – Paro

  • Drive back to Paro.
  • Visit Paro’s landmarks such as Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery and Kyichu Lhakhang.
  • Explore Paro town and do some last-minute shopping.
  • Overnight stay in Paro.

Day 8: Departure

  • Transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward journey.
